Ending this week on a fantastic note: We want to congratulate one of our dedicated staff members, Deb Las, on receiving the Mayor's Medal of Honor for Educational Excellence! Deb has been teaching for 33 years and currently teaches science at John Adams Middle School.
"Deb has been the backbone of the STEM Mentoring Labs at John Adams, an after-school STEM research program for middle school students underrepresented in STEM run by local non-profit Oraculi. Due to her efforts, Las was recently awarded a STEM Research Grant from the Society for Science as one of 41 educators throughout the United States."
Congratulations, Deb! We are so proud to have you as one of our educators.

Winter will be here soon, and we want to share our procedures with you should we have an unexpected school closing. Because these closures are unexpected, all families should have a contingency plan for their children in the event of school closings. Thank you to all branches of our military that served! You took an oath of service before self and today we recognize you. Thank you for your service.
In Mrs. Loy's 7th grade Advanced Learning classes, they had the opportunity to enter a writing competition this month through the Rochester VFW. 7th grade students take this time to make it a class project, so all of the students in those classes write an essay. Only a handful of the students chose to enter the official competition through the Rochester VFW. This year's theme was around using our voice in American democracy. Mrs. Loy also had two 8th grader students from Ms. Parrish's class enter as well. John Adams students took 1st, 2nd, and 5th place! Go Jaguars!
1st place
Aditi Sriram $250.00
2nd place
Sia Richa Sood $200.00
5th place
Jonas Krummer $75.00
Aditi and Sia will move on to District 1 judging with hopes of making it to the state and national rounds of competition. Congratulations on a job well done!
Being that this is the Patriots Pen Essay - this is a perfect to recognize that November 11 is Veteran's Day. Let's take this time to recognize all of our United States Service Members for the service. Without our Veteran's we would not have the freedoms we have today. Thank you for your service!
Honoring all who served. Thank you, Veterans.
This year we set our goal for $10,000, $12/student. If we reach our goal, we will celebrate with an All School Hot Chocolate Party! If we raise, $14,000, we will partner with other local supporters to try and install a rock climbing wall in one of the gym areas.

“The community’s approval of the Ignite Student Learning Referendum will enable Rochester Public Schools (RPS) to avoid closing schools, raising class sizes, and making major cuts to positions and programs that serve our students. It will provide RPS with the financial stability we need to continue implementing our ambitious strategic plan and to remain focused on our academic mission. Most importantly, it is an investment in our students that will pay off in the skilled workforce that Rochester needs to thrive in the decades ahead. We look forward to providing regular updates to the community on how the referendum funds are being used, and we will work hard to continue earning and strengthening the trust that the community has placed in us through its approval of the referendum on November 5, 2024.”
As the polls close and we await results, we want to thank everyone who participated in this important community decision about Rochester Public Schools.
It’s Election Day! Eligible voters have until 8 p.m. to vote on the Ignite Student Learning referendum seeking a levy increase for RPS to avoid school closures, protect class sizes, and continue helping every student succeed.
